Overview In this role you will lead HR operations for a California site, blending generalist support with end-to-end payroll processing. You'll work closely with managers and employees to interpret policies, manage performance, onboarding, and offboarding, and handle benefits and safety coordination. You'll drive compliance with wage-and-hour laws, leave programs, and audits, supporting a positive, inclusive workplace. This is a hands-on role with a strong impact on payroll accuracy, employee experience, and regulatory adherence.
Responsibilities- Serve as primary HR contact for employees and managers
- Support recruiting, onboarding/offboarding, performance management for non-exempt/direct labor
- Guide policy interpretation and documentation; escalate complex cases to HR Director
- Facilitate employee engagement, culture building, and DEI initiatives
- Serve as primary resource for benefit questions and referrals
- Assist with safety initiatives and Workers' Compensation/return-to-work coordination
- Maintain compliant employee files per federal/state/local laws
- Administer and track mandatory training and ensure certifications
Key requirements- 5+ years of progressive HR experience with site-level generalist support and California payroll processing
- HRIS proficiency
- Strong knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, ADA, EEO, and state/local leaves and pay rules (California)
- Discretion, meticulous documentation, and strong customer service
- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business, or related field (or equivalent)
- PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP; FPC/CPP preferred
- Experience with payroll, time and attendance systems; benefits administration experience
