Overview

In this role you conduct method-driven research at the intersection of science, technology, and public policy to inform senior policymakers. You will prepare reports and briefings for OSTP and federal sponsors, lead or support multi-center projects, and surface emerging issues for strategic guidance. You'll collaborate across disciplines to strengthen STPI's role as an independent adviser and contribute to cross-cutting policy initiatives. This work blends rigorous analysis with high-level communication to shape decision-making at the national level.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct independent, method-driven S&T policy research and analysis
  • Prepare written deliverables for OSTP and federal sponsors
  • Respond to sponsor tasking including congressionally mandated studies
  • Potentially lead projects, managing scope, budget, and staffing
  • Monitor developments in assigned policy domain and surface issues
  • Build sponsor relationships and identify collaboration opportunities
  • Present findings to sponsors and committees
  • Contribute technical depth across STPI's cross-disciplinary portfolio
  • Mentor junior researchers as appropriate
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • BS + 8 years of relevant experience, MS + 6 years, or PhD in a related field
  • Proven ability to conduct independent, rigorous research using defined methodologies
  • Proven ability to publish findings and present to technical or policy audiences
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities
  • Ability to work in unstructured environments and manage multiple projects
  • Comfort engaging with senior government officials and industry representatives
  • Adaptability to contribute across diverse S&T policy domains
  • Strong collaboration and cross-team work
  • US citizenship
