Overview

In this role you will manage defense litigation matters from intake to resolution, including trial preparation and strategic planning. You will collaborate with partners, associates, and staff to deliver strong outcomes for clients. The position offers substantial client interaction, courtroom exposure, and opportunities for professional growth within a respected NYC law firm. You will shape litigation strategy, oversee discovery and depositions, and drive cases toward favorable resolutions. This is a hands-on role with a clear path for career advancement in complex civil defense practice.

Responsibilities
  • Manage a caseload of defense litigation matters from assignment through trial and appeal if needed
  • Perform legal research and draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and related documents
  • Oversight of discovery including drafting/responding to demands, document review, and e-discovery
  • Conduct and defend depositions of parties, witnesses, and experts
  • Appear at court appearances, hearings, conferences, arbitrations, mediations, and negotiations
  • Develop litigation strategy and provide analysis to clients and firm leadership
  • Collaborate with partners, associates, experts, and staff for efficient case management
  • Maintain client relationships through regular communication and reporting
  • Prepare cases for trial and participate in trial proceedings as required
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school
  • Active membership in the New York State Bar
  • 3+ years of defense litigation experience
  • Strong legal writing, research, and oral advocacy skills
  • Experience taking and defending depositions
  • Courtroom and motion practice experience
  • Ability to manage multiple matters and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and client relationship management abilities
