Overview In this role you lead confidential investigations within the MTA OIG, directing legal and investigative work to address agency issues. You will plan inquiries, supervise interview processes, and draft formal memoranda and legal documents. You collaborate across the agency to enhance operations and support audits, delivering clear reports and recommendations. A hybrid telework option is available; you'll engage with multiple stakeholders to uphold integrity and accountability in transit operations.
Responsibilities- Lead the team in planning, conducting, and reporting confidential investigations with legal and investigative guidance
- Identify investigation topics, develop assessment plans, and determine significance
- Interview agency personnel and draft interview memoranda
- Maintain relationships and stay informed on evolving MTA operations
- Conduct legal research and analyze documents related to inquiries
- Provide legal and investigative advice to team members
- Draft case memoranda, summaries, subpoenas, and other legal documents
- Recommend improvements to agency operations and support audits
- Prepare professional reports and referral letters on inquiries
- Provide case progress updates to EDIG/Legal and Executive Staff
- Represent the OIG in meetings with MTA entities and external agencies
- Assist in preparing staff to testify at disciplinary hearings, arbitrations, and court proceedings
- Travel within MTA jurisdiction may be required
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree and Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
- Admission to the New York State Bar
- Minimum six years of legal experience with complex investigations or reviews
- Experience with legal research, interviews, pre-trial motion practice, trials and hearings
- Ability to review high volumes of complex data (financial records, cell phone records, time & attendance)
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to articulate issues clearly both orally and in writing
- Strong judgment in legal and investigative matters
- Excellent writing for interviews, findings, and reports
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Technical proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, eDiscovery platforms, and case management software
