Overview In this role you will apply quantitative methods to assess market structure developments and emerging technologies affecting price discovery, liquidity, and market quality. You will work with cross-functional FINRA teams to analyze market practices, conduct empirical research, and support regulatory policy with data-driven insights. You will study topics like tokenized securities, AI-enabled trading, and cross-market dynamics to evaluate risks to investor protection. You will communicate findings to senior leadership and participate in industry forums, helping shape regulatory programs. This is a hands-on, impact-focused role at the intersection of finance, technology, and policy.

Responsibilities- analyze market practices, trading activity, and regulatory programs using quantitative and qualitative methods
- conduct empirical research on securities markets to support rulemaking, policy, surveillance, and market integrity
- analyze large trade- and order-level datasets to identify trends, anomalous trading, and risks
- develop and apply econometric, statistical, and machine learning methods to assess market quality, liquidity, and outcomes
- evaluate economic implications of market structure developments (tokenized securities, DeFi, AI trading, extended-hours, cross-market interactions)
- assess design and vulnerabilities of complex financial products (ETFs, structured products, alternative vehicles)
- support regulatory impact assessments through analytical frameworks and quantitative analyses
- prepare reports and presentations for leadership, industry audiences, and policymakers
- provide analytical support and thought leadership on emerging market trends and investor protection
- represent REMA and FINRA in internal/external groups and forums
- collaborate with regulatory, surveillance, enforcement, examination, and policy staff to keep frameworks informed by market developments
Key requirements- Master's degree in Economics, Finance, Statistics, or a related field; PhD preferred
- 3+ years of relevant experience; demonstrated economic analysis, project design, econometric modeling, data manipulation, programming, and reporting
- proficiency with R, Python, and/or Stata
