Overview In this role you will handle intermediate-to-complex litigation as defense for insureds or the company, under supervision. You will guide discovery, trial prep, negotiations, and appeals across districts and circuits, with a focus on controlling costs and outcomes. You'll collaborate with cross-functional teams and specialists, shaping defense strategy and advising on asset protection when necessary. This remote-ready position blends court appearances with structured in-person work, offering growth through varied case exposure.

Responsibilities- Review files, policies, and medical data to assess liability
- Coordinate with medical and accident reconstruction experts
- Prepare responses to civil complaints and motions
- Determine feasibility of third-party defendants and coordinate subpoenas
- Conduct discovery depositions and formulate interrogatories
- Expose examinations under oath under supervision
- Develop trial strategy and prepare for trial, including jury selection and openings/closings
- Prepare mediation summaries and advocate in Mediation Tribunal
- Advise insured and coordinate with independent counsel when needed
- Coordinate trial or settlement activities with co-counsel
- Apply cost/benefit analysis to litigation activities
- Consult with senior Attorneys on complex cases and advise Appeals Committee on appeals
Key requirements- Juris Doctor Degree and licensed to practice in the applicable state
- Minimum two years of litigation experience as a licensed attorney
- Knowledge of civil law, rules of evidence, and legal research methods
- Familiarity with discovery, mediation, and arbitration procedures
- Understanding of Michigan No-Fault law and insurance contract interpretation
- Ability to communicate effectively with attorneys, judges, clients, and public
- Experience with claims litigation management systems and office software
