Overview In this role, you drive the Marine Underwriting function by setting strategy, guidelines, and governance to ensure quality and profitability. You will lead cross-functional collaboration with Marine leadership and corporate partners to align with the Business Insurance plan and shape the marine product portfolio. You'll develop risk selection and pricing tools, oversee coverages, and mentor a high-performing team. This position offers a strategic leadership opportunity to influence marine underwriting at scale in a hybrid role from Dallas or Houston.
Responsibilities- Partner with Marine Leadership to shape Marine strategy aligned with the Business Insurance plan
- Manage underwriting performance via guidelines, referrals, and audits
- Analyze performance by marine class and drive actions to optimize results
- Develop risk selection and pricing tools to streamline underwriting and profitability
- Provide innovative marine product offerings and customized program products
- Oversee governance on all marine coverages
- Lead and develop the home office team and provide field training
- Prepare regular product overviews for executive leadership and industry developments
- Collaborate with claims, finance, reinsurance, compliance, legal, actuary, product development, operations, underwriting, and marketing to ensure compliance with corporate initiatives
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
- 10+ years of inland marine underwriting experience
- 3+ years of leadership experience in a matrixed organization
- Strong strategic and creative marine product and underwriting acumen
- Exceptional communication and decisive decision-making skills
- Strategic thinker with good judgment and market/industry insight
- Ability to balance risk and reward with a view to company-wide impact
- Collaborative, results-oriented team player with a sense of urgency
