Overview As Senior Underwriter for Starr's Middle Market Property team, you will help grow a $600M nationwide property book by underwriting new and renewal business. You'll work with regional leadership and brokers to apply underwriting standards, price terms, and conditions, ensuring compliant, accurate policies. The role combines analytical risk assessment with collaborative decision-making in a fast-growing environment. Responsibilities- Solicit and review new and renewal property submissions from diverse sources
- Analyze documentation per underwriting standards; request information as needed
- Prepare and present quotation terms and conditions within your authority
- Create referrals and submit for approval for risks outside authority
- Review/approve binding terms and endorsements for new and renewal business
- Prepare insurance details for binders and reinsurance docs; ensure accurate booking and billing
- Approve final bound policy terms prior to distribution; ensure compliance
- Maintain comprehensive file documentation per procedures
- Prepare and submit reports to Home Office and management
- Perform additional duties as assigned by management
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in business, finance, insurance, or related field
- Minimum of 5 years of direct property underwriting experience in middle market/commercial lines
- Ability to analyze complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
- Strong communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills
- Proven ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners
- Interest in ongoing professional growth and potential for management roles
- Proficiency in relevant underwriting platforms and Microsoft Office Suite
- Preferred: professional designations (CPCU, ARM) or progress toward completion
