POSITION SUMMARY
Lance Rental Company is seeking a dependable, safety-focused Class A CDL Driver for our Port Arthur, Texas branch. This local delivery role transports diesel driven pumps, vessels, hoses, fittings, trailers and related rental equipment to refineries, chemical plants and industrial customers. The driver is a key member of the Customer Service and Operations teams and is expected to deliver equipment safely, accurately and professionally. This position is designed for local routes with drivers home every night, subject to operational needs.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Safely deliver and retrieve rental equipment using tractor-trailers, flatbeds and other assigned commercial vehicles.
• Load and unload equipment using approved methods and appropriate lifting equipment when trained and authorized.
• Inspect equipment and trailers before loading; document and report damage, leaks, defects or missing items.
• Properly secure pumps, vessels and other cargo using rated chains, binders, straps and blocking in accordance with applicable cargo securement rules.
• Complete pre-trip, en-route and post-trip vehicle inspections and required defect reports; remove unsafe equipment from service.
• Follow DOT/FMCSA requirements, hours-of-service rules, vehicle weight limits and customer facility procedures.
• Verify delivery and pickup tickets, equipment identification, quantities and customer instructions before departing.
• Obtain required signatures, accurately complete electronic or paper paperwork, and promptly communicate status to Customer Service and dispatch.
• Perform a complete 360-degree walkaround before moving the vehicle, including checking clearance, connections, securement and surrounding personnel.
• Never move customer equipment or a vessel until site personnel confirm all hoses, grounding cables and other connections are disconnected and release is authorized.
• Immediately report accidents, near misses, damage, delays, breakdowns and unsafe conditions; exercise Stop Work Authority.
• Maintain clean, serviceable trucks and trailers and report maintenance needs promptly.
• Represent Lance Rental professionally at customer sites; follow required PPE, site orientation and access procedures.
• Assist with equipment staging, yard organization, inspections, cleaning and other shop/yard duties between deliveries.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
• Valid Class A CDL with driving history meeting company and insurer requirements.
• Minimum three years of tractor-trailer driving experience.
• Meet applicable DOT medical qualification, drug/alcohol testing and driver qualification requirements.
• Working knowledge of vehicle inspections, hours of service, safe backing and cargo securement.
• Able to read delivery instructions, use GPS and electronic records, and communicate clearly with customers and dispatch.
• High school diploma or GED preferred.
PREFERRED SKILLS
• Experience operating winch trucks, including safe winching, loading, unloading and securing heavy equipment, is a strong plus.
• Flatbed and industrial equipment hauling experience; refinery or chemical plant delivery experience.
• TWIC credential or ability to obtain one when required by customer sites.
• Forklift or other material-handling equipment experience, with appropriate authorization.
• Mechanical aptitude, dependable attendance, teamwork and strong customer-service skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
• Ability to climb in and out of trucks, access trailers, bend, kneel, pull securement equipment and handle physical loading tasks safely.
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and use assistance or mechanical equipment for heavier loads.
• Ability to sit and drive for extended periods within applicable hours-of-service limits.
• Work outdoors in heat, humidity, rain and industrial environments; wear required PPE.
• Early starts, overtime and occasional weekend or holiday work may be required to meet customer demand. Regular assignments are local and intended to allow the driver to return home nightly.
ADDITIONAL EXPECTATIONS
Perform other reasonable duties as assigned. All work must follow Lance Rental Company policies, safety expectations and applicable federal, state and local requirements.
