Overview

In this role you influence business strategy within Nationwide's P&C E&S Specialty Reserving team by applying advanced actuarial methods and data analysis. You will lead complex analyses, translate findings for technical and non-technical audiences, and help shape long-term modeling and peer-review practices. The position offers high visibility across actuarial, finance, underwriting, and leadership, with opportunities to drive innovation and cross-functional solutions. This is a strategic, data-driven opportunity to protect customers and advance the actuarial function at Nationwide.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a strategic technical expert in actuarial methodologies and data handling
  • Lead complex analyses and develop informed recommendations for business decisions
  • Document assumptions, methods, and data sources clearly for technical and non-technical audiences
  • Present actuarial findings to OCFO leadership and potentially regulators/auditors
  • Develop cross-functional work plans and coordinate stakeholders for delivery
  • Improve peer review techniques, quality controls, and actuarial innovation
  • Build and maintain strategic relationships to drive solution delivery across the organization
  • Identify training gaps and develop solutions to upskill associates
  • Apply data mining to uncover new relationships and support recommendations
  • Represent Nationwide's position on new or enhanced product development and data needs
Key requirements
  • Actuarial designation, generally FCAS or equivalent
  • Seven or more years of actuarial experience
  • Expert knowledge of actuarial methodologies, statistical analysis, models, software, and databases
  • Ability to source, manipulate, and interpret data within established requirements
  • Strong communication skills to explain complex analysis clearly
  • Strategic thinking and ability to connect technical work to organizational outcomes
  • Collaborative leadership style with ability to guide and develop others
  • Curiosity and interest in advancing tools and processes in actuarial work
