Senior Underwriter / Account Executive Officer - Select

Overview

In this role, you will manage a profitable, growing book for Select Accounts using underwriting and sales to deliver BOP coverage to small businesses. You'll work closely with agents, brokers, and internal teams to assess risk, quote, and secure new business while maintaining profitability. You'll apply risk-aware underwriting in a fast-paced market and mentor others when needed. This position combines technical underwriting with client-facing sales to support Travelers' risk appetite and growth.

Responsibilities
  • Manage profitability, growth, and retention for an assigned book in a high-volume environment
  • Underwrite and negotiate complex property and casualty accounts to balance risk and profitability
  • Ensure underwriting quality with appropriate analysis to accept, decline, modify, or rate and quote
  • Cultivate relationships with internal partners to create sales plans and identify cross-selling opportunities
  • Foster relationships with external partners by meeting with agents/brokers to market Travelers products and write/retain accounts
  • Partner with Sales Executives to identify and pursue new business opportunities using consultative marketing and sales skills
  • Collaborate with underwriting leadership as appropriate
  • May assist in training and mentoring less-experienced Account Executives
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor
  • Six to eight years of underwriting experience with commercial lines
  • Deep knowledge of commercial lines products
  • Advanced critical thinking to identify challenges and make timely decisions aligned with risk appetite
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills with agents and brokers
  • CPCU designation
  • Four years of underwriting, claims, operations, risk assessment, actuarial, sales, product, or finance experience
