Surgical Technology Instructor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

The Surgical Technology Instructor must possess education, professional experience, occupational competency, and instructional qualifications sufficient for the courses and competencies assigned.

For surgical technology core courses, the preferred candidate will be a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) with current certification through the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or possess another credential acceptable under the institution's applicable accreditation and program requirements.

The instructor should possess substantial documented operating-room experience as a Surgical Technologist or in an appropriately related perioperative role. Recent operating-room experience is strongly preferred for instructors responsible for technical Surgical Technology courses.

Faculty teaching general education, biological science, or other non-core academic courses must possess academic qualifications appropriate to the subject matter and consistent with applicable institutional accreditation requirements.

Previous teaching experience in Surgical Technology, allied health, nursing, healthcare education, or adult education is preferred.
