Overview As a Senior Java Backend Engineer, you will architect, build, and optimize scalable backend systems in a microservices environment. You'll own system design, database strategy, and engineering best practices within a collaborative team aligned to the company's mission. You'll tackle high-throughput, fault-tolerant services and drive end-to-end features with product, QA, and frontend partners. This role blends deep backend work with opportunities for frontend collaboration and modern UI integration to enable seamless user experiences.
Responsibilities- Architect, design and implement high-throughput microservices and distributed backend systems using Java and Spring
- Lead technical discussions, conduct code reviews, and mentor engineers
- Design RESTful APIs and manage relational/NoSQL schemas, including performance optimization
- Implement caching strategies and diagnose performance bottlenecks
- Collaborate with product, QA, and frontend teams to refine specifications and deliver features
- Coordinate with DevOps for containerized deployments (Docker/Kubernetes) and CI/CD
- Work with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure) to support scalable infrastructure
- Ensure high availability and low latency across backend services
- Integrate frontend components with RESTful/GraphQL APIs and WebSockets
- Document APIs (Swagger/OpenAPI) and manage API gateways (Kong/Apigee)
- Embrace agile/scrum practices and contribute to engineering craftsmanship
Key requirements- Expert-level knowledge of Java (11/17+), Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security, Spring Data, and Hibernate/JPA
- Strong microservices design and REST API design experience
- Relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL; MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Experience with testing (JUnit, Mockito), TDD and performance profiling
- Message queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
- Docker, Kubernetes, cloud environments (AWS/GCP/Azure) and CI/CD tools (Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions)
- Git, Maven/Gradle
- Hands-on frontend familiarity with modern UI frameworks (React, Angular, Vue) for full-stack collaboration
