Overview In this role you will provide strategic export controls guidance across a fast-paced, global tech environment. You will advise data systems, R&D and engineering teams on classification, cross-border transfers, and new product development, shaping compliance for global operations. You will draft and negotiate trade provisions, lead international due diligence for M&A, and manage licensing strategies. You will build and promote the Export Compliance Program while training stakeholders and monitoring evolving laws to mitigate risk.
Responsibilities- Advise stakeholders on export controls issues and provide practical solutions in complex geo-political contexts
- Counsel product development teams on classifications and cross-border technology transfers
- Draft and negotiate trade compliance provisions in commercial agreements
- Lead international trade due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic investments
- Represent the company before government agencies (e.g., BIS) and manage licensing strategies
- Design, draft and maintain the Export Compliance Program and related policies
- Deliver targeted training to mitigate global trade risks
- Support process automation and continuous improvement of export compliance practices
- Monitor regulatory changes and assess impact on operations and sanctions intersections
- Conduct periodic risk assessments to identify vulnerabilities and close compliance gaps
- Respond to country-specific sanctions interactions with U.S. export controls
- Support ad hoc Global Legal Compliance projects
Key requirements- Juris Doctorate with up-to-date qualifications to practice law in a common law jurisdiction
- Proven export controls compliance experience including advisory and program management
- Deep knowledge of U.S. Export Administration Regulations and related national security laws
- Experience with product/classification under the Commerce Control List
- Strong analytical and communication skills to work with diverse stakeholders
