Trial Attorney - Defense Litigation

Overview

Experienced Defense Litigation Attorney in New York City to manage a diverse defense caseload from inception through appeal. You'll work within a collaborative, entrepreneurial firm environment on sophisticated cases across multiple practice areas. You will provide strategic advice, lead discovery and trial activities, and nurture client relationships while contributing to business development. This role offers exposure to complex civil defense matters and opportunities to impact case strategy and outcomes. A strong track record in trial leadership and service-driven advocacy will help you thrive here.

Responsibilities
  • Manage defense litigation cases from start to finish (inception, trial, and appeal)
  • Conduct fact investigations, draft pleadings, discovery requests/responses, motions, and trial briefs
  • Take and defend depositions and handle other discovery activities
  • Appear in court for arguments, conferences, hearings, and trials
  • Prepare and try cases before juries and judges
  • Provide strategic legal counsel to clients
  • Collaborate with partners and associates on complex matters
  • Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and service
  • Contribute to business development efforts and firm initiatives
Key requirements
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • Active admission to the New York State Bar (additional states a plus)
  • 3+ years of civil defense litigation experience (5+ years preferred)
  • Significant courtroom and first-chair trial experience
  • Proven track record in complex litigation through all phases (including trial)
  • Experience in professional liability, construction, insurance defense, or products liability is highly desirable
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and case management abilities
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to a team-oriented environment
