Defense Litigation Attorney

Overview

In this role you will manage defense litigation from inception through trial and appeal, handling a diverse caseload across multiple practice areas. You join a collaborative, entrepreneurial team and work closely with partners and associates on sophisticated matters. You will contribute to strategic decisions, supervise discovery and pleadings, and maintain strong client relationships with an emphasis on service and results. This position offers meaningful opportunities to lead cases in professional liability, construction, insurance defense, and products liability, with a clear focus on impact and growth.

Responsibilities
  • Manage defense litigation from inception through trial and appeal
  • Conduct factual investigations, draft pleadings, discovery requests/responses, motions, and trial briefs
  • Take and defend depositions and participate in discovery activities
  • Appear in court for arguments, conferences, hearings, and trials
  • Prepare and try cases before juries and judges
  • Provide strategic legal advice and client counseling
  • Collaborate with partners and associates on complex matters
  • Maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and service
  • Contribute to business development efforts and firm initiatives
Key requirements
  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active admission to the New York State Bar (additional state admissions a plus)
  • 3+ years of civil defense litigation experience (5+ years preferred)
  • Significant courtroom and first-chair trial experience strongly preferred
  • Proven track record of handling complex litigation through all phases including trial
  • Experience in professional liability, construction, insurance defense, or products liability highly desirable
  • Excellent written and oral advocacy skills
  • Strong analytical, negotiation, and case management abilities
