Overview As Sr. Chemist at PBF Energy, you will lead analytical testing support for refinery processes and laboratory operations. You will manage instrumentation maintenance, calibration, and quality programs to ensure compliant, reliable analytical data. You'll collaborate with Laboratory, Technical and Operations teams on routine and non-routine testing, driving improvements and enabling project execution. This role offers impact through optimization of instrumentation, testing procedures, and regulatory adherence at the Toledo Refinery. You will shape how analytical capabilities support refinery reliability and product quality.
Responsibilities- Lead analytical testing and troubleshooting for refinery processes and laboratory operations
- Oversee Analytical Instrumentation and Preventative Maintenance program
- Manage Analytical Instrumentation Calibration program per ASTM, refinery, and regulatory requirements
- Run Statistical Quality Control across methods and instrumentation
- Evaluate and install new analytical instrumentation as needed
- Coordinate vendor repairs for analytical instruments
- Develop procedures and train chemists/technicians on equipment and procedures
- Provide non-routine testing support to departments for refinery projects
- Develop and implement procedures to address refinery issues, including outsourcing and monitoring
- Prepare analyses and reports for completed support work
Key requirements- Bachelor's Science Degree with major in organic or analytical chemistry
- 5+ years of refinery or petrochemical experience with at least 2 years in a laboratory setting
- Familiarity with process safety, environmental regulations, and refinery operations
- Knowledge of basic refinery processes, reliability principles, product planning and scheduling
