Overview

In this role you will conduct lab experiments and data analysis under supervision to support synthesis, purification, and polymerization of small molecules and polymerizable monomers. You will work within the Advanced Materials and Energetics Group to develop and evaluate polymeric materials, including nanoparticles, with an emphasis on accuracy and safety. You'll contribute to high-throughput synthesis and characterization, and help translate results into technical reports and improvements. This position offers the chance to impact materials used in diverse applications while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities
  • Polymerize monomers using controlled living polymerization techniques
  • Purify synthesis products
  • Characterize products with instruments (DLS, NMR, MS, elemental analysis)
  • Contribute to design and maintenance of high-throughput synthesis and characterization processes
  • Perform conjugation chemistry to modify monomers/polymers
  • Assist in designing experiments for improved synthetic methods
  • Maintain detailed lab documentation and contribute to status reports
  • Assist with SOP development and continuous process improvement initiatives
  • Support internal R&D studies and client-facing activities
  • Build relationships with internal clients and assist with proposals and business development
Key requirements
  • B.S. or M.S. in Chemistry, Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or related field
  • 0-2 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with synthesis, purification, and characterization of polymeric materials, biomaterials, and/or nanoparticles
  • Strong laboratory and documentation skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for detailed procedures
  • Ability to summarize results in spreadsheets, reports, and presentations
  • Experience with laboratory work and literature search
  • US Citizenship; ability to undergo background check for clearances for classified projects
