Overview

As an Associate Attorney at Liberty Mutual, you will represent the company and its policyholders in moderately complex civil litigation and workers' compensation matters. You will work under moderate supervision to manage cases from inception through resolution, collaborating with claims professionals and senior attorneys. This role emphasizes client advisory, legal research, and efficient use of technology to streamline workflows. Responsibilities
  • Manage all phases of litigation, including discovery, hearings, trials, mediations, and drafting pleadings and motions.
  • Support Senior Trial Counsel and Senior Litigation Counsel in case handling through trial.
  • Provide clear legal opinions and strategic advice to Claims Representatives and insured clients.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships through effective communication.
  • Utilize e-discovery and case management technologies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
  • Identify and collaborate on strategies to mitigate legal risks and facilitate resolutions.
  • Ensure all legal documents are accurate, compliant, and aligned with client expectations.
  • Provide timely updates and recommendations to clients and claims professionals.
Key requirements
  • Juris Doctor (JD) or LLB from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the New York bar in good standing
  • General knowledge of insurance law; workers' compensation and/or No Fault law as needed
  • Proficiency in e-discovery, case management systems, and basic legal analysis tools
  • Strong analytical, research, and legal writing skills
  • Negotiation basics and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to manage cases end-to-end under supervision
  • Effective written and oral communication; collaboration with clients and colleagues
