Government Relations and Health Policy Officer

Overview

In this role you advance health policy and research efforts by engaging with system leadership at local, state, and federal levels. You monitor and shape legislative and regulatory proposals affecting Summa Health System and its affiliated entities. You serve as a primary liaison with elected officials and public sector leaders, connecting them to policy and funding initiatives. You work in a fast-paced environment to influence public policy in service of patient care and health access. You'll join a collaborative team driving systemic impact.

Responsibilities
  • Engage system leadership in policy discussions at local, state, and national levels
  • Monitor, analyze, and manage legislative and regulatory proposals affecting the health system
  • Advance Summa Health System's relationship-building goals with public sector entities
  • Serve as main point of contact with elected officials and public sector agencies across federal to local levels
  • Connect leadership and staff to government relations initiatives and public sector funding opportunities
Key requirements
  • Seven (7) years of government relations or legislative experience
  • Registered lobbyist with the State of Ohio
  • Experience with health care trade associations (e.g., AHIP, OAHP, OHA, OSMA) and Medicare/Medicaid laws
  • Experience managing external consultants or lobbying firms
  • Extensive knowledge of federal, state, and local legislative processes
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong verbal and written communication, interpersonal and networking skills
  • Affinity for teamwork and system-community partnerships
  • Population-specific competency in engaging with diverse patients/customers
