Overview

As a Research Scientist, you will sustain the Global AI Vibrancy Tool and contribute to the AI Index report. You will gather and validate data, review new research, consult external experts, and write technical sections of the report. You'll surface gaps and trends to improve how we measure AI's state. This role blends data work with policy-relevant analysis in a collaborative, academic setting.

Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and develop usable data from complex sources
  • Query repositories to generate reports, charts, graphs, and tables
  • Identify patterns and trends using qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Recommend additional data collection and reporting requirements
  • Design and customize reports based on database data
  • Perform statistical analyses for complex data and reporting needs
  • Serve as a resource for statistics or survey inquiries
  • Lead data standards and common data elements for collection
  • Collaborate to standardize dashboards, metrics, and routine reports
  • Possibly test prototype software and participate in release processes
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a quantitative field
  • Three years of relevant experience or related education
  • Experience with AI landscape, foundation models, evaluation/benchmarking
  • Proficiency in Python, R, SQL, Tableau or similar tools
  • Experience handling large, messy datasets from multiple sources
  • Strong judgment on data quality and comparability
  • Clear technical writing and published or public-facing analytical work
  • Self-directed, able to navigate ambiguity in a fast-moving field
  • Ability to manage multiple activities in a deadline-driven environment
  • Leadership ability on projects and with users/clients
