Overview In this role you will advance science-based strategies for evaluating the climate impact of outside-value-chain carbon reduction and removal efforts. You will contribute to a global sustainability program aimed at net-zero through robust quantification methods and partnerships with academia, industry, and internal teams. Your work supports scaling climate solutions across diverse technologies and regions, shaping Amazon's approach to credits and carbon removal. Responsibilities- Own science-based strategy and quality standards for scalable carbon reduction/removal segments (e.g., BiCRS, enhanced rock weathering, household fuel-switching, superpollutant abatement)
- Review weaknesses in current quantification approaches within voluntary and compliance carbon markets
- Develop novel methodologies to quantify climate impact and monitor performance of specific segments/projects
- Build trust with external academics, civil society, and suppliers in carbon reduction/removal
- Publish internal and external scientific communications demonstrating quantification and credit quality
- Collaborate with portfolio, project managers, and the sustainability science/tech community to instill best practices
- Travel periodically to project sites and facilities worldwide
Key requirements- PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of quantitative field research experience
- Experience applying scientific principles to business problems and products
- Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets
- Strong communication and collaboration
- Curiosity and rigorous analytical mindset
- Ability to translate complex science for diverse audiences
- Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language
- Experience with agile development
- Experience building web-based dashboards using common frameworks
