West Region Mining Practice Lead

Overview

In this role you lead mining projects and a regional practice, guiding technical teams, managing programs, and expanding service offerings across the West Region. You'll drive client-facing business development, mentor staff, and recruit to grow HDR's mining capabilities. You'll coordinate multi-disciplinary teams, develop proposals, and ensure projects meet budget, schedule, safety, and quality targets, contributing to HDR's mission to make a positive impact globally.

Responsibilities
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams on mining design, permitting, and operations
  • Lead project management and program-building initiatives to deliver client projects on time and within scope
  • Develop and expand regional service offerings through collaboration with national teams
  • Recruit, mentor, and grow mining staff in the West Region
  • Engage with clients to understand challenges, position HDR on proposals, and manage relationships through project completion
  • Oversee proposals and bid processes, including technical value development
  • Represent HDR in local/regional industry organizations and events
  • Support cross-functional collaboration with operations leadership, marketing, and BD leadership
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in mining, civil, chemical engineering, or related field
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration in at least one state (multiple states preferred)
  • 15+ years of mining industry experience
  • 10+ years of mining project management experience
  • Experience delivering mining projects end-to-end (budget, schedule, safety, quality)
  • Familiarity with various mining commodities and operations from exploration to reclamation (open pit and underground)
  • Ability to lead a team on projects
  • Strong planning, communication, and mentoring skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Project
  • MSHA certification
  • Experience with mine block modeling software
