Overview As a Mechanical Engineer at Redwire Space, you contribute to advanced design of space mechanisms and structures for satellites, launch vehicles, and defense applications. You'll collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to solve challenging problems, drawing on fundamental mechanical knowledge and creative engineering. You will develop state of the art mechanisms, support tests, and ensure design integrity from concept through flight hardware. This role offers hands on prototyping, cross team coordination, and impact across high reliability space programs.

Responsibilities- Review and establish program requirements
- Functionally own mechanical systems and coordinate cross team interactions
- Develop and track schedules to meet deadlines
- Create 3D mechanism designs primarily in SolidWorks
- Select materials and surface treatments
- Perform preliminary analysis
- Create manufacturing drawings using GD&T per ASME Y14.5
- Create design review packages (PowerPoint)
- Create and maintain requirements matrices in Excel or Jama
- Produce assembly and build documentation in Word
- Defend designs to engineers and customers
- Assemble prototype and flight hardware in lab
- Assemble sensors and operate test equipment
- Follow QA processes per AS9100
- Provide feedback to improve QA processes
- Interface with customers, subcontractors, and manufacturers
- Work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment
- Exhibit courteous behavior and professional communication
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in a related field with 3+ years in aerospace, space, energy, semiconductor, subsea, or similar high reliability industry
- Experience with SolidWorks
- Knowledge of Design for Manufacturing
- Familiarity with materials and space grade surface treatments
- Strong foundation in mechanical design principles and engineering fundamentals
- Some travel may be required
