Overview In this Product Manager role, you own the investment strategy for tax compliance and decide where to place bets and how to sequence capabilities for maximum impact. You'll partner with Engineering, Operations, Compliance, Legal, and CX to identify friction, validate solutions, and align cross-functionally. You'll prototype, dive into tax complexity, and deliver AI-enabled, scalable systems that keep pace with evolving rules. This role supports trusted, high leverage product work for Gusto's SMB customers in a fast, AI driven environment.

Responsibilities- Own the long-term direction and investment strategy for tax compliance capabilities
- Decide where to build, what to prioritize, and how to sequence work for maximum return
- Prototype and iterate on tax-related solutions, leveraging AI to ship faster
- Collaborate across Engineering, Design, Operations, Compliance, Legal, and CX to remove friction for internal customers
- Turn complex tax requirements into durable, scalable systems and ensure end-to-end ownership of outcomes
Key requirements- 5+ years of hands-on product management experience including ownership of internal-facing platforms or operational systems
- Track record of driving leverage through automation, tooling, or system improvements
- Strong technical fluency and ability to partner with engineering in complex codebases
- Experience in a compliance-driven or highly regulated domain (e.g., tax, banking, financial services)
- Hands-on experience with AI and automation
- Data-driven with ability to set goals and measure impact
- Exceptional cross-functional partnering with internal customers (Operations and Compliance) and engineering
- Ability to define direction, structure ambiguity, and make deliberate prioritization tradeoffs
