Overview As a Fire Alarm Designer Consultant, you will design, review, and oversee fire alarm and mass notification systems for complex projects. You will work closely with clients and multidisciplinary teams to ensure life safety and code compliance across design, construction, and commissioning phases. This role offers hands-on technical leadership at a large facility, with opportunities to mentor junior staff and influence project outcomes. Responsibilities- Lead fire alarm and mass notification system design from concept through construction, including layouts, device placement, riser diagrams, sequences, and calculations
- Produce code-compliant drawings, shop drawings, specifications, and reports using REVIT, AutoCAD, or similar tools
- Review architectural/engineering drawings for life safety and fire code compliance
- Act as owner's representative during design, construction, and commissioning phases
- Conduct site surveys and assess existing fire alarm installations
- Prepare/submission review for design, shop drawings, and construction in line with codes and requirements
- Support testing, commissioning, and acceptance activities, including test plans and witnessing tests
- Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, AHJs, and internal teams
- Interface with clients to communicate findings, recommendations, and project status
- Manage project aspects such as schedules, workload, and scope adherence
- Stay updated on codes/standards and provide mentorship to junior staff including NICET development
Key requirements- Progressive experience in fire alarm system design, consulting, or inspection
- Proficiency with AutoCAD or similar design software
- Strong communication skills and ability to present technical design strategies
