Overview As a Geotechnical Engineer in HDR's Resources Group, you contribute to the design and assessment of subsurface conditions for infrastructure projects across NY/NJ. You work with senior engineers to analyze soils and rocks, support field programs, and guide foundation and earthwork decisions. You'll travel for site visits, collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, and help deliver safe, resilient ground support for power and infrastructure. This role offers hands-on field and design work within a culture that values inclusion and employee ownership.
Responsibilities- Travel throughout New York and New Jersey for site visits, project meetings, investigation layout and observation
- Set up field exploration programs and coordinate with subcontractors
- Conduct field inspections of construction activities, including earthwork and foundation installations
- Work independently or in a team environment assisting senior geotechnical staff
- Perform assignments exercising judgement in evaluation, selection, and modification of standard engineering techniques and procedures
Key requirements- MS in Civil Engineering or equivalent (preferred)
- BS in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or related technical discipline
- 5 years of geotechnical-related engineering experience
- Knowledge of soil and rock mechanics
- Willingness to travel throughout the NY/NJ area
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Local candidates preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in appropriate jurisdiction
- Experience with MS Office and GeoStudio/Ensoft or Bentley geotechnical tools
