Overview In this role you will lead intellectual property protection for Whirlpool's innovations, aligning IP strategy with product leadership. You'll work with cross-functional teams to safeguard patents and trade secrets while enabling business growth. You'll manage a global patent portfolio, advise on IP transactions, and guide risk and monetization opportunities. Responsibilities- Develop and execute IP protection strategies for Whirlpool's technology areas
- Advise on patent strategy and manage filing, prosecution, and maintenance of the global patent portfolio
- Negotiate IP-related agreements (M&A, confidentiality, development, licenses) and assist in broader commercial agreements
- Investigate and pursue enforcement and monetization opportunities for IP assets
- Establish product clearance plans and advise on freedom-to-operate risks
- Provide IP advice and training to engineering and business teams
- Improve processes and systems to deliver an effective IP program within the law department
- Provide leadership and cross-functional collaboration to advance business strategy through IP
Key requirements- JD from an accredited law school with bar admission
- Bachelor's Degree
- 3+ years of experience as an IP attorney focusing on patents; experience in patent/trade secret litigation, IP transactions, and global portfolio management is highly desirable
- Strong analytical and organizational abilities
