Overview

In this role you perform detailed engineering reviews and provide technical guidance on plans, ensuring compliance with rules, regulations, and contracts. You will tackle moderately complex problems, propose improved methods, and communicate findings to clients and teams. You work both autonomously and as part of a group, while upholding ABS Quality System requirements. This position offers exposure to shipyard and offshore projects and a path to deepen engineering expertise within a global safety-focused organization. You will influence project outcomes through clear reporting, client interaction, and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities
  • Perform detailed engineering plan reviews for compliance with rules, regulations, and contracts
  • Provide technical guidance to field operations and technical offices
  • Address moderately complex problems and coordinate with multiple disciplines
  • Propose new approaches and recommend changes in methods, procedures, or designs
  • Draft accurate reports and formal communications
  • Interact with clients to identify and resolve technical issues
  • Prepare weekly work reports and billing for all tasks
  • Communicate workload status to team to meet client needs
  • Contribute as a team member while often working autonomously
  • Implement and maintain ABS Quality System requirements
Key requirements
  • B.S. in Civil, Structural Engineering, Naval Architecture, Ocean Engineering, or related disciplines
  • Masters/Ph.D. graduates may be hired as Engineer II if degrees match the position
  • Demonstrated computer literacy in engineering software
  • Exposure to Finite Element Method (course work or supervised research)
  • Experience requirements vary by track (Hull or Machinery) including long-term industry experience or professional license as applicable
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral
  • Ability to work well with others and learn ABS HSEQ systems
  • Professional or chartered engineer license is a plus
