Overview As a Commercial Lines Lead Field Underwriter you will drive profitable production and ongoing management of commercial and agribusiness accounts within your territory. You'll lead an account team, analyze opportunities across exposure, pricing, service, and sales, and coordinate with agents to present and close deals. You'll manage renewal strategy discussions, ensure thorough underwriting documentation, and involve cross-functional partners to support risk control and service. This role blends expert underwriting with agency relations to deliver growth and value.
Responsibilities- Underwrite and collaborate on new and renewal commercial lines accounts; pre-qualify customers and lead the account team in opportunity analysis
- Represent the company to build strong agency relationships; lead agency business planning and manage the book of business for profit and revenue objectives
- Participate in renewal strategy meetings; provide detailed underwriting information and contribute to renewal decisions
- Deliver quotes, terms, and Premium Value Statements; negotiate renewals to win orders
- Utilize underwriting tools and resources; assess exposures, determine pricing, and accept/reject accounts per guidelines
- Document underwriting decisions with supporting data; maintain audit-ready records
- Involve internal partners (Claims, Risk Control, Premium Audit, Billing, etc.) in prospecting, sales, and underwriting
- Coordinate monthly renewal strategy discussions with underwriting and services teams to shape renewal approaches
- Communicate underwriting procedures, growth goals, and regulatory considerations to agents and internally
- Coordinate collaboration meetings for large, complex accounts and notify agencies of outcomes and requirements
- Address questions from agencies or policyholders and escalate issues when needed
- Negotiate with agents to achieve profitable outcomes
- Travel as required, including use of fleet vehicle for territory coverage
- May perform short-notice travel or daily driving duties as assigned
Key requirements- 5+ years of Commercial Lines Underwriting experience
- Bachelor's degree in related field and/or commensurate work experience
- Valid driver's license and a driving record meeting company standards
