U.S. Indirect Tax Manager

Overview

In this role you will lead Palantir's US indirect tax function across a dynamic multi-state landscape, delivering compliant and defensible tax positions. You will partner with cross-functional teams to scale tax processes, manage audits, and improve controls. You'll interpret evolving state and local tax laws for SaaS and digital products, driving accurate, audit-ready filings. This is a hands-on tax leadership role at a high-growth tech company, with meaningful impact on risk management and business operations.

Responsibilities
  • Advise internal partners on complex sales and use tax matters across multiple jurisdictions
  • Interpret state and local tax laws and form defensible positions for evolving tax frameworks
  • Evaluate guidance and evidence to support consistent tax positions in gray areas
  • Review sales and use tax returns for accuracy and reasonableness
  • Prepare and maintain sales tax reconciliations for accurate balance sheet reporting
  • Manage US indirect tax compliance including business licenses, gross receipts, and property taxes
  • Identify systemic issues and control gaps by linking data across reports and systems
  • Lead end-to-end state and local sales and use tax audits and negotiate findings with auditors
  • Develop and defend audit positions with clear tax rationale and documentation
  • Extend and optimize OneSource tax engine configuration for accurate use tax calculations
  • Collaborate with Accounting, AP, and Procurement as the indirect tax subject-matter resource
Key requirements
  • Strong US indirect tax expertise in complex multi-state environments
  • Ability to think critically and apply sound judgment in ambiguous tax situations
  • Hands-on experience with ONESOURCE and NetSuite preferred
  • Experience reviewing sales and use tax returns with focus on accuracy and reasonableness
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent organizational, interpersonal, accounting and time-management abilities with independent project execution
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive indirect tax experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • CPA preferred
