Software Chief Architect - AvionX

Overview

In this role you lead the AvionX Software Engineering organization, serving as the top software technical authority across airborne programs from architecture through certification. You ensure coherence, integrity, and DO-178C/LOR compliance of software architectures, bridging software discipline with system-level safety objectives. You will enable software engineering practices across AvionX programs and collaborate with Enterprise Software Engineering to improve processes. You will shape embedded software architecture for safety-critical platforms and drive cross-functional technical leadership.

Responsibilities
  • Advise management on embedded software engineering topics
  • Lead design, development, test, and maintenance of embedded software in devices and systems
  • Direct verification and debugging activities for embedded software
  • Influence tools, regulations, and technology choices relevant to software development and hardware tech
  • Translate customer requirements into software designs for embedded platforms
  • Oversee software-hardware integration and system performance of embedded software
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards and certification processes across programs
  • Provide technical leadership for embedded software project management and supplier performance assessments
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree
  • U.S. citizenship with ability to obtain a U.S. security clearance
  • 15+ years of C/C++ programming experience
  • 10+ years of embedded systems software development with RTOS (VxWorks, Deos, or Integrity)
  • 10+ years of MATLAB/Simulink experience
  • 10+ years of embedded software verification or certification experience
  • Ability to communicate with multi-disciplinary technical teams
  • Strong leadership and advisory capabilities
  • Strategic thinking and regulatory awareness
  • C/C++ proficiency
  • RTOS experience (VxWorks, Deos, Integrity)
  • MATLAB/Simulink
