Overview In this role you will lead Peraton's international trade compliance program, advising senior leadership on cross-border operations and sanctions. You will supervise a dedicated team, keep programs aligned with US and select international laws, and shape risk-based compliance across programs and jurisdictions. You'll work closely with the Legal Department, Trade Compliance, and program teams to enable compliant global operations and export activities. This is a mission-driven opportunity to scale governance in a fast-moving, government contracting environment.
Responsibilities- Lead the Trade Compliance Program and supervise a team of 6 professionals
- Advise on US and non-US trade laws, sanctions, and regulatory changes
- Oversee export license applications, ITAR exemptions and EAR exceptions
- Ensure export/import records compliance with regulatory requirements
- Manage trade compliance risk assessments, audits, and due diligence
- Counsel on international operations, legal presence, and local labor/compliance requirements
- Review international contracts/purchase orders for compliance; participate in program discussions
- Conduct and oversee trade compliance training and develop the training program
- Develop and mentor the Trade Compliance team to high performance
Key requirements- US Citizenship
- Top-Secret clearance eligibility
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited US law school
- Bar admission in at least one US jurisdiction
- Minimum 16 years of attorney experience with 5+ years in trade compliance or international business operations, preferably in federal contracting
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Leadership and people-management capability
- Deep understanding of ITAR, EAR, OFAC, and related regulatory processes
- Familiarity with compliance tools for managing trade activities
- Experience with export/import recordkeeping and license processes
