Senior Estimator - Earthwork/Civil

Overview

As Senior Estimator you will lead preconstruction efforts with minimal supervision, serving as the main liaison to design teams and owners. You will guide multiple project delivery methods, applying advanced estimating techniques across earthwork, paving, utilities, and structures for transit, civil, and highway projects. You will produce detailed take-offs, solicit quotes, build comprehensive cost estimates, and drive bid closure. This role blends technical rigor with cross functional collaboration to help win work and set project cost baselines. You'll work in a culture of ownership and accountability, shaping outcomes from early planning through bid completion.

Responsibilities
  • Advanced HCSS knowledge for estimate entry and quote tools
  • Estimate all scopes within your discipline
  • Prepare detailed quantity take-offs to develop cost estimates
  • Estimate unit costs via crew, production rates, and equipment selection
  • Participate in detailed estimate reviews with thorough explanations
  • Use cost history data to verify production rates
  • Prepare supplier bid packages to secure competitive quotes for self-performed work
  • Coordinate junior estimators and interns with takeoff and vendor solicitation
  • Assist in obtaining firm quotes from material suppliers, equipment, and subcontractors
  • Discipline-specific tasks such as earthwork, paving, underground utilities, and bridges/structures focus areas
Key requirements
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Four-year engineering degree or equivalent experience
  • Ten or more years of estimating experience
  • Proven track record as prime contact with minimal oversight on projects
  • LEED accreditation and/or DBIA certification (preferred) or willingness to obtain
  • Strong communication and collaboration
  • Detail-oriented and thorough
  • Ability to explain complex estimates clearly
  • HCSS knowledge for estimate entry and quotes
  • Detailed quantity take-offs
  • Cost estimation and unit cost analysis
