Overview In this role you will provide strategic legal guidance to the surety underwriters and management to support BHSI's global surety growth. You will work closely with the Surety team to shape risk assessments, contract and bond negotiations, and underwriting guidance. The position emphasizes practical legal solutions for brokers, customers, and underwriters in a collaborative, value-based culture. You will contribute to global expansion efforts and product development in the surety space.

Responsibilities- Advise on risk and legal issues across the surety business, including contracts, bonds, indemnity agreements, and underwriting documents
- Negotiate with brokers, bond customers, obligees, and related parties in surety transactions
- Manage Co-Surety relationships and related documents
- Research laws and regulatory developments impacting underwriting and construction/surety
- Develop training materials and underwriting guidance for surety professionals
- Contribute to global growth docs for international surety markets and new product development
Key requirements- Law degree and licensed attorney in applicable jurisdiction
- 10+ years in surety claims, surety and construction law, or surety underwriting support
- National and international surety experience a plus
- Strong time management and ability to prioritize
- Ability to work with minimal oversight and navigate uncertainty
- Excellent written and verbal communication, teamwork, and negotiation skills
- Willingness to travel up to 30%
