Overview

As a Sr IT Systems Engineer, you design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure IT infrastructure and lead IT projects. You manage cloud platforms (AWS/Azure), apply advanced security practices, and mentor junior system administrators. You'll develop automation to streamline processes, perform advanced system optimization, and collaborate across teams on IT initiatives. This role supports Sierra Space's mission to safeguard national security and enable space capabilities by delivering reliable, secure IT systems.

Responsibilities
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure IT infrastructure
  • Manage and optimize cloud platforms (AWS, Azure)
  • Implement advanced security technologies and practices
  • Lead IT projects using established project management methodologies
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts to improve efficiency
  • Perform advanced systems administration including performance tuning
  • Troubleshoot complex networking and distributed computing environments
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on IT initiatives
  • Write proposals, technical papers, and documentation for stakeholders
  • Act as vendor liaison and represent the company in presentations
  • Stay current with industry trends and emerging technologies
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent work experience; typically 8+ years of related experience
  • Advanced knowledge of systems administration
  • 3+ years of cloud computing experience (AWS/Azure)
  • Experience designing and implementing scalable and secure infrastructure
  • Experience with advanced security technologies and practices
  • Knowledge of IT project management methodologies
  • Ability to lead and mentor junior system administrators
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience writing proposals and presenting to stakeholders
  • Ability to automate processes and optimize systems
  • Solid understanding of operating systems and networking/distributed computing concepts
