Overview In this Senior Attorney role within DMV's Counsel's Office, you will support litigation and advisory work for the agency, collaborating with state and federal courts, and advising business units on legal matters. You will help draft legislation, regulations, contracts, MOUs, and procurement documents, while handling inquiries from courts, law enforcement, and regulators. You'll participate in agency projects and training efforts, contributing to public service and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities- Assist in litigation in state and federal courts alongside the Attorney General's Office
- Defend the agency in discrimination matters and represent DMV in hearings
- Draft and interpret legislation and regulations
- Support procurements and review contracts, MOUs, IFBs and RFPs
- Conduct legal research and provide analyses for agency decisions
- Advise business units on legal matters and respond to inquiries from judges, courts, law enforcement, and stakeholders
- Participate in agency project teams implementing laws and policies
- Possibly train court clerks, judges, and law enforcement personnel
- Engage in any other legal duties as needed
Key requirements- Admission to the NYS Bar and 24 months of subsequent satisfactory legal experience, or 12 months as Assistant Attorney 3
- Transfer or reinstatement provisions as per Civil Service Law
- Open to 55b/c eligible candidates with the required minimum qualifications
- Experience as a New York State Attorney is preferred (3+ years)
