Overview In this Derrickhand role, you ensure smooth mud module operations and support the drilling crew. You will maintain mud pumps, manage chemical properties, and supervise floorhands to keep the mud system running safely and efficiently. You work closely with the Driller, Mud Engineer, and Rig Manager to support tripping, maintenance, and problem-solving. This is a hands-on field position with a strong focus on safety, reliability, and operational uptime.
Responsibilities- Perform preventive maintenance and general repairs on mud pumps and equipment
- Manage mud chemical types and quantities to meet operational needs
- Direct and supervise Floorhand assisting with sack handling and shakers
- Maintain housekeeping and upkeep of chemical/mud pits and pumps
- Assist Driller with tripping operations (lifting/lowering drill pipe)
- Monitor mud properties: weigh, viscosity, and barrels gained/lost every 0.5 hours
- Respond to instructions from Mud Engineer, Driller, or Rig Manager promptly
- Work above the drilling floor (monkey board) guiding drill pipe during tripping
- Wear PPE and perform duties at heights and on varied terrain
- Carry out other duties as required by the Rig Manager
Key requirements- Minimum 3 years rig experience as Floorhand or Motorhand (Nabors) or 1 year Derrickhand (elsewhere)
- Ability to work 7/14 days on/off, including holidays
- Physical stamina for long shifts and heavy lifting (up to 60 lbs, 160 lbs torque)
- Ability to take direction from Mud Engineer, Driller, or Rig Manager
- Proficiency in mud monitoring and basic maintenance tasks
- Comfort with working at height (140+ feet) and on steel decking
