Overview In this role you will support the Elected Prosecuting Attorney by handling a criminal caseload, including court preparation, charging decisions, legal research and drafting. You will manage misdemeanor and felony cases, handling trials, motions, and appeals, while reviewing files from law enforcement to determine charges. You will draft briefs and legal documents, and represent the State in the Judicial District. This position shapes prosecutorial work within the district and contributes to effective public safety and legal processes.
Responsibilities- Receive and evaluate criminal complaints for prosecution
- Prepare complaint affidavits for filing in misdemeanor prosecutions
- Manage misdemeanor case load including trial and witness preparation
- Manage felony Circuit Court case load including motions and trials
- Review case files to recommend charges
- Draft briefs, motions, and other legal documents
- Represent the State in legal proceedings within the Judicial District
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school
- Licensed to practice law in Arkansas and admitted to the Arkansas State Bar
- Knowledge of state and federal laws and statutes
- Knowledge of Criminal Procedure
- Ability to research, analyze, interpret, and apply case law and statutes
