Overview In this role you drive firm-wide and sectional attorney development, designing and delivering training, mentoring, and performance initiatives. You will partner with practice group leaders, senior lawyers, and administrative teams to align curricula with strategic talent goals. You'll manage budgets, staffing, and onboarding for domestic and international offices, influencing retention and professional growth. This is a hands-on role at a top-tier firm with a culture of collaboration and high standards.
Responsibilities- Design and manage firm-wide in-house training programs and milestones
- Coordinate section-specific training planning and logistics
- Develop strategic training plans with practice area partners for associates, onboarding, and lateral hires
- Lead design and delivery of in-house and third-party training and professional development
- Oversee mentoring and leadership development programs across all levels
- Manage the Attorney Development budget and allocate resources
- Facilitate staffing and work allocation aligned with development goals
- Collaborate with General Counsel and Chief Talent Officer on employment, compliance, and risk matters
- Oversee mid-year and year-end evaluation cycles, communications, and reporting
- Oversee onboarding, training, and performance reviews for international offices
- Assist with talent development processes and associate reviews
- Serve as a resource for professional development opportunities
- Work cross-functionally with other teams
- Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements- 5+ years in professional development, performance management, or practice support, ideally at a peer law firm
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (especially Excel) and generative AI tools (Copilot and Harvey)
- Knowledge of Micron and viDesktop a plus
- UK trainee and solicitor licensing/compliance knowledge a plus but not required
- Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and handle confidential matters
- Ability to interface with attorneys, business professionals and outside vendors; build trust
- Willingness to travel as needed
- Bachelor's degree; J.D. strongly preferred; coaching certification and legal practice experience a plus
