Overview In this role you will support the Arizona Department of Public Safety by coordinating and executing professional HR functions across recruitment, classification/compensation, test development, employee programs, and benefits. You will work with cross-functional teams to interpret policies, produce reports, and advise on HR issues for staff and leadership. The position emphasizes independent judgment, analytical reasoning, and a focus on compliance within a public safety context. This is an open recruitment for an 18-month eligibility list to meet current and future needs.
Responsibilities- Screen applications to assess qualifications for hiring
- Coordinate background investigations for prospective employees
- Recruit applicants through advertisements and career events
- Coordinate hiring and onboarding of new employees
- Schedule, administer and score applicant examinations
- Analyze candidate information for employment and promotional eligibility
- Conduct job analyses and develop job descriptions (Classification/Compensation)
- Perform salary surveys and analyze results for appropriate compensation
- Develop and validate selection instruments (test development)
- Provide direction to SMEs on assessment materials
- Coordinate department programs (DFW, Wellness, ADA, EAP)
- Manage operating budgets for HR programs
- Train employees on HR programs and issues
- Review and process employee forms for changes/requests
- Coordinate benefits programs (FMLA, COBRA, insurance plans, retirement)
- Assist with donor leave and employee discounts
- Serve as liaison with administration for policy issues
Key requirements- Bachelor's degree in HR, Business or Public Administration or related field; or a related field with corresponding experience
- Two years of professional HR experience or four years paraprofessional HR experience (if degree in unrelated field)
- Knowledge of state and federal HR laws and regulations
- Ability to analyze data and use software for testing and salary information
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Discretion and ability to maintain confidential information
- Ability to travel as needed
- Successful completion of examination process and current performance rating of at least Standard in last 12 months
