Overview

In this role you will support a sophisticated international trade practice in Washington, D.C., focusing on export controls, tariffs, customs, sanctions, and CFIUS matters. You will collaborate with partners and clients to navigate regulatory requirements and provide practical guidance on complex cross-border issues. The position offers exposure to high-level national security and trade matters within a collaborative, growth-minded firm culture. Responsibilities
  • Advise clients on export controls, customs, tariffs, sanctions, and CFIUS reviews
  • Assist with compliance requirements of BIS, DDTC, U.S. Customs and OFAC
  • Analyze customs issues including entry, classification, and valuation
  • Support matters under antidumping, countervailing duty, and safeguard laws
  • Conduct legal/regulatory research and provide practical guidance
  • Draft memoranda, submissions, compliance materials, and client communications
  • Collaborate with cross-office attorneys on complex cross-border matters
  • Monitor regulatory developments and advise on potential impacts
Key requirements
  • 2/3+ years of substantive international trade law experience
  • JD from a top-tier law school with excellent academic record
  • Active Bar Admission in the District of Columbia, in good standing
  • Fluent in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese
  • Experience in BIS/DDTC export controls or U.S. customs law is required
  • Experience with OFAC sanctions is preferred
  • Experience with trade remedy investigations is a plus
  • Strong research, analytical, writing, and communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced, team environment
