Underwriter

As an Underwriter at Jackson, you assess and classify risk for policies using company guidelines and thorough data review. You will determine medical, non-medical, and regulatory requirements and explain underwriting decisions to producers and customers. You will support complex underwriting issues, escalate when needed, and operate within approval thresholds to balance risk with customer expectations. This role combines analytical judgment with cross-functional coordination in a mission-driven life insurance environment.

• Review reinstatement/reissue applications to evaluate eligibility based on guidelines and standards
• Determine medical, non-medical, regulatory, and compliance requirements
• Escalate cases to Compliance when additional review is needed
• Assign risk classifications using data analysis and underwriting philosophy
• Advise financial professionals and customers on underwriting rationales, including adverse outcomes
• Assist with information requests related to underwriting processes
• Support customers and professionals with complex underwriting service issues
• Interpret ECGs and update the Life Underwriting Guide
• Perform basic clerical duties supporting the underwriting process
• Handle project and committee work as assigned

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
• 1+ years of life underwriting experience
• Knowledge of underwriting risk assessment principles and medical terminology
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and relevant department software
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Ability to work under pressure
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Good judgment in applying underwriting techniques
• Active pursuit or completion of a LOMA designation (preferred)
