Overview

In this Underwriter Development Program, you will embark on a structured, seven-week experience to build core underwriting, analytical, and leadership skills in commercial insurance. You will work closely with seasoned underwriters and leaders, gaining exposure to underwriting, claims, operations, and product management. The program emphasizes hands-on learning, mentorship, and cross-functional collaboration to prepare you for a career as a commercial underwriter. This role is anchored in Cincinnati, with a clear path to ongoing development and progressive responsibility. You will contribute to risk assessment, pricing, and customer service while expanding industry knowledge.

Responsibilities
  • Support business goals using independent judgment and initiative
  • Provide exceptional service to internal and external partners
  • Analyze coverage requests, limits, and exposures to determine underwriting terms
  • Apply underwriting guidelines, rating methodologies, and applicable laws and regulations
  • Order and evaluate underwriting reports (motor vehicle records, loss history, inspections, loss control)
  • Assess risk quality and compliance with guidelines; recommend loss prevention actions
  • Price business per underwriting standards
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customers, agents, and colleagues
  • Complete training and professional development activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • Bachelor's degree with minimum 3.2 GPA
