Overview In this role you advance Gusto's people-forward mission by advising managers and leadership on complex employee matters. You will partner with Legal and People teams to resolve high-risk workplace issues while maintaining equity and respect. You'll enable performance improvement, foster inclusivity, and ensure compliant, defensible ER documentation. Responsibilities- Manage employee concerns, investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution to promote a harmonious workplace
- Coach managers on performance expectations, feedback, and development planning; facilitate performance management and offboarding
- Maintain current knowledge of HR regulations and ensure policy and legal compliance
- Partner with Legal and People Partners to assess risk and determine appropriate actions on escalated cases
- Navigate high-stakes, ambiguous situations with sound judgment, balancing employee experience with business risk
- Maintain thorough, legally defensible ER case documentation and surface systemic risks to leadership
- Identify patterns across cases to surface organizational risk before escalation
Key requirements- Minimum 4 years in an HR Generalist role or 2 years in an Employee Relations or HR Business Partner role
- Experience handling complex, sensitive ER matters with discretion and composure under pressure
- Ability to manage multiple stakeholder interests with fairness and equity
- Track record of cross-functional collaboration with Legal on escalated issues
- Strong knowledge of HR best practices, employment laws, and industry trends
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for collaborating with diverse teams
- Analytical skills to interpret ER metrics and derive actionable insights
