Overview In this role, you will lead and manage estimating activities for construction projects, shaping budgets and bid strategies. You'll analyze plans and specifications, perform takeoffs and cost calculations, and coordinate bid processes with subcontractors. You'll support post-bid buyouts and assist site teams after awards, contributing to accurate, competitive project estimates. This position offers the chance to influence project outcomes and work closely with suppliers, Project Managers, and estimating staff.
Responsibilities- Review project plans, requirements and specifications
- Prepare quantity takeoffs and materials pricing
- Coordinate subcontract solicitations and jobwalks
- Determine labor and equipment costs
- Prepare conceptual estimates
- Meet and maintain bidding and work schedules
- Submit requisitions for materials
- Compare competitive bids
- Review preliminary quotes and pre-bid estimates with Project Manager
- Secure bid documents and prepare subcontractor bid lists
- Participate in bid compilation
- Assist jobsite staff with estimates after bid award
- Perform post-bid buyouts
- Maintain relationships with suppliers and subcontractors
- Supervise and train estimating staff
- Complete other responsibilities as assigned
Key requirements- Engineering, Construction Management or Architectural degree, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum 3 years project engineering or related experience
- Ability to read and understand specifications and drawings
- Ability to make accurate judgments and calculations
- Working knowledge of construction costs and principles
- Estimating experience (quantity takeoffs, purchasing accounting; engineering design knowledge and project management experience desirable)
