Overview

As Structural Estimator, you will analyze design and construction documents to determine needs across structural scopes and prepare project cost estimates. You will work within the Estimating department to support a unified vision, lead workload coordination, and ensure timely, accurate bids. Your work will shape project economics, risk, and team collaboration across pre-construction and exec levels. Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate estimating activities to support safety, quality, and profitability goals
  • Ensure updated documents and timelines are used for all estimates
  • Perform quantity take-offs and back-checks; review constructability with pre-construction team
  • Prepare estimates using drawings, specs, and related documents (Bluebeam tools, smartsheets)
  • Review plans and specs for complete scope; liaise with project team for scope validation
  • Produce required reports (Beck/Destini) and manage subcontractor pricing
  • Encourage and track M/WESB participation; maintain supplier price list
  • Present estimates to HS I executive team with unit costs ($/CY, $/MH)
  • Mentor new team members; participate in site visits and project reviews
  • Promote Hoffman Structures values (leadership, planning, communication, accountability) to advance culture
  • Prepare for final bid submission and ensure alignment with executive expectations
  • Support coordination of estimating workload and calendar with team
  • Maintain and update necessary documentation for completeness and submission timelines
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of construction estimating experience
  • Experience with commercial, healthcare, industrial, water treatment, or hi-tech projects
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture (or equivalent)
  • Proficiency with CSI specifications and organizing technical data
  • Strong communication skills; ability to collaborate with owners, architects, engineers, vendors, and subs
  • Proficiency in Windows, MS Office, Bluebeam; experience with Prolog, Procore, E-Builder, MS Project, Primavera P6
  • AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks familiarity
  • LEED accreditation preferred or willingness to pursue
  • Self-starter, team leadership, problem solving, able to stay calm under pressure
  • Flexibility for overtime or off-shift work to meet bid schedules
