Overview

In this role you drive engineering and construction at solid waste facilities, mentor a technical team, and liaise with senior management. You apply strong problem-solving and management skills to a diverse project portfolio, advancing WM's position as a leader in comprehensive waste management services. You'll engage with regulators, oversee capital and construction activities, and help shape strategic waste management solutions across sites. This is a hands-on role with substantial cross-functional collaboration and impact.

Responsibilities
  • Direct and manage professional consultants for permit applications, construction plans, site monitoring, and regulatory submittals, ensuring final work products meet standards.
  • Maintain direct communication with regulators and represent WM in permit meetings, hearings, and site inspections.
  • Oversee landfill construction projects, manage budgets, consultants, contractors, bid processes, and quality assurance.
  • Track and manage capital budgets for engineering/construction projects and report status to local and corporate management.
  • Coordinate landfill capacity tracking, airspace calculations, and fill sequencing plans with site managers.
  • Regularly evaluate sites for permit conformance and expansion potential; pursue/modify permits as needed.
  • Collaborate with WM professionals to deliver cost-effective engineering solutions for operational, environmental, and compliance issues.
  • Provide technical guidance to management, finance, legal, and safety teams to drive issue resolution.
  • Participate in acquisitions/divestitures reviews, including due diligence support and pro forma modeling with corporate and executive teams.
  • Train and mentor WM technical staff assigned to the team.
