Overview In this role you provide strategic legal counsel to NYPA's business units, shaping contract drafting, risk assessment, and regulatory analysis. You will influence energy asset acquisitions, project financings, and complex negotiations, collaborating with internal teams and outside counsel. You'll translate evolving laws into actionable guidance and support leadership with informed decisions. Your work helps NYPA achieve its programmatic and financial objectives while navigating a dynamic legal environment.

Responsibilities- Provide independent legal advice on complex matters and transactions for specific business clients
- Supervise legal staff and outside counsel; ensure high-quality work product
- Draft opinions and briefs on intricate issues and project financings
- Evaluate legal risk and regulatory changes affecting NYPA, advising senior leadership
- Lead cases in judicial or administrative forums on behalf of NYPA and subsidiaries
- Collaborate with business units to implement legal strategies supporting operations
- Develop and implement processes and standards to improve legal practice efficiency
- Prepare training materials on areas of law and their impact on NYPA
Key requirements- Juris Doctor Degree
- Admitted to practice in New York State and Federal court
- Minimum 8 years of legal experience as a practicing attorney
- Experience in energy, litigation, commercial and finance, or employment law
- Experience in the utility industry preferred
