Research Scientist, AI for the Chemical Sciences

Overview

In this role you will lead an AI/ML-focused summer bootcamp for the chemical sciences, designing an immersive two-week program and mentoring participants through research integration. You will collaborate with CCE faculty and external experts to build sustainable computational curricula and research pathways. You'll enable the application of AI/ML to active chemical projects and contribute to shared automation platforms. This position blends education, research, and infrastructure development to advance AI-enabled chemistry.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and deliver a two-week AI/ML bootcamp for the chemical sciences
  • Create lectures and hands-on labs covering data curation, molecular representations, ML models, deep learning, generative models, and applications in reactions, catalysis, and spectroscopy
  • Coordinate with CCE faculty and visiting lecturers to integrate domain expertise into the curriculum
  • Provide year-round mentorship and technical support to bootcamp participants transitioning to active research
  • Develop and maintain computational workflows, datasets, and teaching materials for long-term reuse
  • Support interdisciplinary research combining experimental and computational approaches
  • Contribute to shared automation or robotic experimentation platforms linked to AI-driven research
  • Publish and disseminate bootcamp outcomes
  • Assist with assessment, reporting, and continuous improvement of the program
  • Participate in outreach, workshops, and related educational activities within CCE
  • Perform other related job duties as assigned
Key requirements
  • PhD in relevant field
  • Demonstrated expertise in machine learning and data science applied to chemical sciences
  • Experience developing computational workflows for chemical data analysis or modeling
  • Strong programming skills for scientific computing and ML
  • Experience teaching, mentoring, or training students and researchers
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
